Please Read for Updates to Quarantine Protocol

Dear Families of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School,

We want to take the time to thank all our families who have kept your child(ren) home if they are feeling unwell for any reason. We acknowledge there are students out for a variety of illness, to include an increase of positive COVID-19 cases at the school. We appreciate your diligence and ask that you continue to watch your
child(ren) and keep them home in the event they are not feeling well.

We would like to address some FAQ’s that have been coming up recently:
What should students or staff do if they test positive for COVID-19?
Those who test positive for COVID-19 need to notify school administration immediately. They are not eligible to return to school until the appropriate quarantine period has been completed.

What should I do if I am a close contact to someone with COVID-19?
Anyone identified as a close contact is required to follow the Health Department guidelines. The guidance varies based on vaccination status, whether someone is experiencing symptoms, and previous documented history of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 infection in the past 90 days. For more information please reference this guidance from the Snohomish County Health Department.

How long do individuals with COVID-19 need to quarantine?
Last week, both the Department of Health and the Snohomish Health District made changes to the isolation and quarantine protocol for COVID-19 in K12 settings.

Modified quarantine for close contact
Quarantine requirements for students, teachers and staff who come into close contact with someone with COVID-19:

*For Household exposures this would be the last day the person with COVID is considered infectious.

Modified quarantine for those with COVID-19
All people with COVID-19 (with or without symptoms) need to isolate for at least 5 days. For all students, teachers and
staff who have COIVD:

How will students who need to quarantine stay up-to-date with their school work?
A healthy family member may come by the school to pick up a packet of homework for the time the student is
out, if requested by the parents. Teachers are also posting homework in Google Classroom. If/when a student
is feeling up to it, please have them check their Google Classroom for homework assignments.

Given the transmissibility of the omicron variant, we are experiencing a surge of COVID-19 cases in the local
community. To help reduce the spread of COVID-19 at St. Mary Magdalen, please reinforce the importance of
handwashing, masking, and physically distancing when discussing strategies with your children at
home. Please continue to keep your child(ren) home from school if they are showing any symptoms of
illness.

Please keep the health and well-being of the St. Mary Magdalen students and staff in your thoughts and
prayers!
