Principal’s Welcome

Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.” Corinthians 10:17

Welcome to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School!

One of the first things I noticed about St. Mary Magdalen when I arrived, as a teacher, was how embraced I felt by the community. This is a place I could call home, and that’s exactly what we want for you and your family too.

I’m Bernadine Mahar, but around here, students affectionately call me “Dr. B”. As the principal of SMM, along with our fantastic teachers and staff, we’re thrilled to welcome you into our dynamic and diverse community.

A little about me: I grew up with five brothers and sisters in Maine, New Jersey, later moving to Michigan. I met my husband at a wilderness camp near the Everglades in Florida. My husband and I live on a little farm on Whidbey Island where we raised our son, Levi. We have two dogs named Boots and Dottie, a cat named Jujube, 13 chickens, and a bunch of apple trees.

I’ve dedicated myself to education for over 35 years as a teacher, wilderness camp counselor, a school counselor, Dean of Students, and an elementary school principal for many years. In 2006, I received my Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Here at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School, we are all about fostering a vibrant, secure, and faith-filled place to learn and grow. As soon as you walk through our doors, you’ll feel the pulse of our community – firmly rooted in our Catholic faith and values. Students and parents alike can rest assured knowing that we have their best interests at the core of all we do. Here at SMM, we are not just about schooling, but about partnership. I want you, our amazing families, to feel like you are part of the team – because together, we’re unstoppable.

So come on, join the journey, and let’s show the world what #smmstrongertogether really means!

Blessings,
Bernadine A. Mahar, Ed.D
